With a point from the previous match , Mohunbagan faced another city based club Aryan club at the Yubabharati Krirangran , Salt Lake in their second tie of the 115th edition of IFA shield .
With a long list of injury, it was a tough time for the Mohun Bagan coach to chalk out the first eleven . Aryan club started off pretty well , as one of their foreigner Baba Tunde got an early chance to score. But it was Biswajit Saha , who handled the situation quite well.
As said earlier that adverse weather condition and injury can be undoubtedly a major factor , the green and maroon boys did not start quite well . Yet, with Barreto playing from the very first minute , the attacks of the mariners were watchable at times . Barreto could have got a goal earlier had not the ball hit the post . It will be really interesting if one can sit and start counting that how many chances were restricted by the post itself.
At the 37th minute the brazilian forward who was found limping was replaced by Punjab lad Harpreet Singh Minhas. In the 39th minute , it was Ashim Biswas who scored again and helped Bagan to take a lead from a essaying cross , by scoring Ashim completed the 87th goal of his career. After the lemon break , it was Bagan who were found more aggresive and created couple of chances but was hindered by the Aryan players.
In the 53rd minute it was Harpreet’s floater which was also restricted by the cross bar and went out. The referee P.K. Bose denied a penalty that was touch and go , after Ishfaq Ahmed was fouled inside the penalty box. At times it was found the Aryan players were getting physical and the referee went on ignoring . Finally , it was a good day for Bagan supporters who were eagerly waiting for a victory , and it has definately brought back a bit of smile to the them. Finally , the mission was finely accomplished and Bagan now have 4 points from the 2 matches they played till date . Ashim Biswas was deservingly adjudged the man of the match of today’s game.
