The breaking news of the day is that Kolkata Knight Riders boss and ace Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is going to invest in Indian football with a 50 percent stake in the 5-time I-league champions Dempo SC.
According to a report by the ET, buoyed by his teams’ success in the IPL, SRK is looking to diversify his investment in sports. Both side have confirmed the move saying that the talks are on and “have been very positive though not yet closed”.
The deal is to be finalized in two weeks. The estimated worth of the football club is said to be Rs 50-60 crores. Dempo SC have been the dominant force in Indian football and have won the Indian football league a record 5 times including this year.
Dempo chairman Mr Srinivas Dempo had talked about his grand plans regarding the club’s future. They will have a chance to make it to the Asian Champions League which is a cash rich tournament through a play-off.
To build a team of such strength, they will need to sign up world class players. If a person of SRK’s stature joins hands with Indian football with big purse, Indian football fans are up for a treat!
