East Bengal Club will be celebrating their Foundation Day on 1st August with a special function at the club ground. To mark the occasion the club will be honouring the stars of yester years.
Legendary footballer Ahmed Khan – the mesmerizing wizard of Indian soccer will be conferred ‘Bharat Gourav’ Award. He is one of the finest footballer ever born in India. He was called the Magician of Indian Football – a total snake charmer. Played in our club from 1949 – 1959 and was the captain in 1954.
Former East Bengal stars Prasanta Sinha and Santo Mitra will be honoured with ‘Life Time Achievement’ Award. Ilyas Pasha – the unforgettable Red and Gold hero who played for the club for ten years will also be honoured that day.
Kingfisher East Bengal team player Penn Ikechukwu Orji who played a stellar role in the last season will be given the ‘Golden Boot’ Award.
Besides the players the club will be honouring former referees Sumanta Ghosh and Sagar Sen in appreciation of whistling life in soccer. The Club will also honour noted sports journalists – Shibaji Das Gupta and Rupak Saha in appreciation of dedicated life in Sports Journalism.
