The lawyers fighting on behalf of the AIFF put up a strong case against Mohun Bagan leaving the sword hanging over their fate.

Retd. Justice A K Ganguly who has been appointed as a one man committee heard both the sides for over 6 hours. Mohun Bagan put forth their case saying that the match was hosted by East Bengal and they were the guests. Hence the security was the responsibility of the home team.

They further added that the match was being conducted by inexperienced referees in front of a vociferous 100,000 strong crowd. Some of the decisions by the referee agitated the spectators and a stone thrown by one of them hit Rahim Nabi, injuring him gravely. Citing these incidents, Mohun Bagan said that they feared about the security of their players and hence pulled out their team.

Mr. Ushanath Banerjee, who led the team of AIFF lawyers, objected to the issues raised by Mohun Bagan and said that the match venue was in fact neutral for both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. Since the home grounds of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are not approved, both the teams play their home matches in Salt Lake.

Another lawyer for AIFF substantiated their stance by adding that if the crowd was violent and the security was lax, it would have affected both the teams equally. But East Bengal waited for them to appear after HT for 50 minutes on the ground.

He played the unedited video from Ten Action which shows that the crowd was under control during HT and later, debuncking the ‘lack of security’ theory of Mohun Bagan.

It is expected that the verdict on Mohun Bagan’s fate will come out on 27th or 28th December. The final decision will be taken by the AIFF disciplinary committee

  1. Is there any law in rules book of AIFF for suspending the club officials who have brought disgrace and shame in the supporters of this prestigious and historical club instead of suspending the club. The officials have proved in the past few years that they are playing with the emotions and the sentiments of the club's supporters.
