Sony SIX, one of the newest sports channels, has bagged the rights to telecast the FIFA U17 World Cup 2017 to be held in India.
All the matches will be telecast live and exclusive only on Sony SIX and its sister channel Sony SIX HD. The sports channel has also bagged rights to telecast FIFA World Cup 2014 and 2018 editions to be held in Brazil and Russia respectively.
This will be the first time when a football tournament of this stature will be held in India who won the rights late last year after the Govt granted all the agreements after much delay.
Sony SIX has won 17 FIFA events to telecast in the Indian subcontinent. Additionally the 2016 and the 2020 editions of much followed UEFA Euro Cup would also be telecast live on Sony SIX.
Notably, Sony Entertainment Network also holds the broadcast rights to the Indian Premier League cricket tournament and this will be the first time that IPL will be telecast simultaneously on SET MAX and SONY SIX.
All India Football Federation is planning to conduct a major U16 Indian football league to prepare its team for the first ever World Cup that India would be playing in any age group.
