It has been a disastrous start to the world cup for current world champions Spain after a crushing defeat against Netherlands in their first match. Nobody had imagined the mighty Spaniards will be outplayed in such a manner. The 5-1 defeat must be very hard to sink in for a team who has enjoyed tremendous success in recent past.
The Chilean camp is filled with a joyous feeling, after their first game win against the Australians. Chili will have a mental advantage while going into this game, as there will be extreme pressure on the Spaniard to win this game. Chile will rely on Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Isla to swing the match in their favor.
Team News and strategy
Chile
Chilean side are on a high after their win against Australia. Chilean squad has many world class players in their squad who can turn the match in their favor with their individual brilliance.
The defensive line of Isla, Medel, Jara and Mena played as a cohesive unit, hardly allowing Australian forwards to sneak past them. Isla was instrumental in guiding the other defenders and His man marking abilities will play a crucial role to stop the heavily armoured Spanish forwards.
Arturo Vidal is considered as the best central defending midfielder in world at present. He will have the responsibility to stop passing machine Xavi and Iniesta in the midfield. Aranguez and Valdivia will play from the flank side. Valdivia will be high on confidence after scoring a goal against Australia.
Vargas and Alexis Sanchez will be the two strikers in their squad. Alexis Sanchez has been in great form and he continued his form in the first game by scoring a goal. Sanchez whose playing attributes are almost same to Robben can be a threatening prospect for the Spanish defence which looked lackluster in their first encounter.
Key Player:
Alexis Sanchez will once again be the player to watch out for in this game. He will look to burst into the Spanish penalty area and he together with Vargas and Valdavia can put the Spanish defence under pressure.
Predicted line-up : Bravo; Jara, Medel, Gonzalez; Isla, Vidal, Diaz, Beausejour; Sanchez, Vargas, Fernandez.
Spain
The Spanish side must be deflated after their humiliating defeat against Netherlands. But the World Champions will have to picj themselves up and display their tiki-taka style of play once again.
There were too many things that went against the Spanish in that game. Captain Iker Casillas looked extremely rusty. His extremely untidy effort to kick the ball away which ended up allowing Van Persie to score his second goal summed up his performance in the game.
Sergio Ramos and Gerrard Pique had no communication between them. The two central defenders had a huge gap between them which was exploited by the Dutch forwards throughout the game. Besides that they were also guilty of over attacking which left Iker Casillas in a one-on-one encounter with a Dutch striker on at least on 4-5 occasions.
Xavi Hernandez and Diego Costa were ineffective. Many believed that these two players are going to be the star performers for the Spanish team in this game but both failed miserably. Costa’s only shot at fame came when he won a penalty for the Spanish, which was converted by Xabi Alonso, giving Spain something to cheer about.
There were many questions raised about the exclusion of the likes of Koke, Fabregas, Torres in the starting 11. Del Bosque will have to reconsider about his playing 11 and we may see couple of big changes being made in this crucial match.
Key player:
Andres Iniesta will be the key player for Spain. He was the only player who showed some glimpse of promise in their last game, he will have to bring his top game to ensure that his team does not face an early exit from the tournament.
Predicted line-up: Iker Casillas (GK), Jordi Alba, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Cesar Azpilicueta, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fábregas, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Diego Costa.
Predicted score
This game is expected to be a nail biting encounter, and if the Spaniards managed to gather themselves up for this game they will win it by 2-1.
