2. Daniel Sturridge & Phillipe Coutinho
As Liverpool headed into January 2013, they had just one recognized first team-striker i.e Luis Suarez. After having lost out on Gylfi Siggurdsson and Clint Dempsey in the summer to Spurs, Liverpool looked well short of ammunition upfront. As soon as the window opened in Jan 2013, Liverpool wrapped up the signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea for about £12 million. Seen as a risk by many, Sturridge has proved to be one of Europe Top strikers since his move to Merseyside. 32 goals in 46 games for the Reds is more than a generous output from a striker who cost just £12 million. Phillipe Coutinho swapped the San Siro for Anfield later that month for a fee reported to be around £8.5 million. The dimunitive Brazilian was handed the number 10 and he has gone from strength to strength in a Red shirt. Now a key member of this Liverpool side, what many saw a gamble at around £8.5 million Countinho is now worth somewhere around £25 – 30 million.
