2) Benedikt Howedes
World-Cup winner and Schalke skipper Benedikt Howedes is someone who has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for quite some time now. An accomplished defender who is comfortable playing across the back-four; Howedes demonstrated his versatility by effortlessly operating at full-back for the Manschaft in Brazil last June.
Howedes has been a key name among Europe’s elite clubs’ shopping lists for the last couple of the seasons. Aged 26, Howedes is just about hitting his peak as a footballer. A leader by nature, the German international is priced at about £15million, Howedes seems a bit of a long shot for a move to North London in the next two weeks. With Schalke having a daunting Champions League tie against Real Madrid next month and as the German club are engaged in their fight for European qualification in the Bundesliga; parting with their captain isn’t something that would go down well with the fans. As captain, Howedes is a key figure at the club who is clearly a fan favourite. If he were to leave, a summer move would be more logical.
