Sunil Chhetri Leads India To Intercontinental Cup Triumph

Sunil Chhetri scored twice in the first half to lead India to 2-0 victory over Kenya in the Hero Intercontinental Cup finals. Chhetri scored 8 goals in 4 games and was key to India’s triumph.

India won the opening game against Chinese Taipei 5-0 and followed it up with a 3-0 victory over Kenya which marked the 100th international appearance for Sunil Chhetri. India faced a set back in their last group stage game against New Zealand losing 2-1.

India scored 11 goals in 4 games and conceded Only 2 goals. The tournament kickstarted India’s preparation for 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE.

Other key performers for India were young central midfielder Anirudh Thapa, winger Udanta Singh, goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu and right back Pritam Kotal.
