A 35th minute goal from Hirving Lozano was the difference as Mexico deservedly beat champions Germany in their first game of 2018 World Cup. Mexico were certainly the better team and dominated most of the first half having more shots and better chances.
Germany came all guns blazing but couldn’t manage to break Mexico’s defence who had several chances to kill the game in the second half on the counter but missed.
Earlier Serbia edged past Costa Rica courtsey of an amazing free kick from captain Aleksandar Kolorov earlier in the second half. Serbia face Switzerland next while Costa Rica will have their task cut out against Brazil
