The blow by Afghanistan football team is being felt in the Indian football circuit. Everyone is wondering how can a team that is rattled by war and has just managed to assemble just a day before the tournament hold India to a draw. And this thought has caused AIFF to re-consider the future of a few seniors in the team.
The AIFF is planning to re-structure the Indian national football team post SAFF Championship. The message has reached coach Savio Medeira. He has been asked to identify potential young players from I-league who can be drafted into the senior team. The axe could fall on Climax Lawrence, Mahesh Gawli, Steven Dias, Samir Nayak and Mehrajuddin Wadoo.
The next big challenge for the Indian team is the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 to be held in March in Nepal. Seeing the performance of India against Afghanistan the Indian fans are not even dreaming about their chances of winning the tournament and qualify for the Asian Cup.
The world, and specially AFG’s neighbors must know, AFG comes with thousands of years of history and strong culture. Its sad that AFG is been used as a stepping stone by the big powers, but the will of Afghans always remain strong. If this final game is played clean by the Indian team, AFG team will win. Savio’s coaching left a lot to be desired in the Afghanistan match. The right flank was not utilized properly allowing the Afghan captain Fakhruddin to make pacy inroads. Climax Lawrence tired out and was a mere passenger in the last 20 mins, he should have been replaced by Jewel Raja. Lalrindika should have been brought in much earlier. Savio’s matching reading is very poor.
