I-League CEO Mr. Sunando Dhar has said that Mohun Bagan team might be suspended from I-League this season for pulling out their team half way through the Kolkata derby.

Quoting the Article 22 of I-League, Mr. Dhar said that the penalty for refusing to play a match could amount to suspension from all activities for entire season.

In a high-voltage Kolkata derby, East Bengal took lead in the late minutes of 1st half. The game became more physical, forcing the referee to show more yellow cards to Mohun Bagan players. Things went out of control when Odafa was shown red card after he dangerously charged towards the referee.

A big stone weighing around 1.5-2 kilos aimed at the referee flew in from the Mohun Bagan gallery and hit Rahim Nabi who was arguing with the referee at that moment. He had to be admitted to a nearby hospital following the injury.

Mohun Bagan officials decided not to field their players after the lemon break. The match commissioner and sports minister Madan Mitra persuaded the officials to no avail. Mohun Bagan cited the lack of security and law and order situation for pulling out of the match.

“The match commissioner requested Mohun Bagan and the Article 22 was reminded to them, still they refused to play. They will be suspended from the I-League this season”

  1. khelte na janlei uthon baka? odafa thutu chetale osubidha nei, ar refarry red card dekhalei problem? referee ja koreche, besh koreche, eirokom sahosi referee e aj bengal er football er dorkar…..

  2. Okay, Great Refereeing.happy?

I'm not blaming anyone but this ref could not control the game and provoked people into violence, yes, what happened was bad but who the hell started it?

  3. First of all I am a neutral… here goes my view..
Sorry but in this case security was the reason. If AIFF bans them then the blame will be on them also not to conduct the match in the proper way. One just cannot force the players to play under such circumstances where their life is at risk.
